Paph. President’s Flight

A handsome hybrid, this paphiopedilum has a nice mottled pattern overlaying green foliage. The leaf span is 9-10″ (about 24 cm.) The flower is large at 4.5″ (11.5 cm) with a delightful pink flame on green and tan and almost spotless pedals. The flowers are long-lasting. Blooms stand 10″ straight above the foliage and make a very nice display. Winter-spring, intermediate to warm temps. Registered with the RHS in 2016 by Lehua. Lehua Orchids is located on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Regarding the name, the story goes that the small airport of Hilo had to be cordoned off during a Christmas holiday one year because Air Force One (U.S. presidential plane) had to be parked here when the president was on a Christmas vacation in Hawaii.
