Neofinetia falcata ‘Cyosentetsu Aojiku’

This is such a pretty little Neofinetia falcata (or Fuukiran 風蘭) with mini pine-needle (朝鮮鉄) leaves forming tightly upright, compact (3″ leaf-span) fans. A plant with many clumps looks stunning, like a live miniature sculpture. This variety blooms from the apex of the growth, unlike regular Neofinetias which spike from a leaf axis. Of note, once bloomed the blooming fan will stop growing. Cyosentetsu Aojiku sports delicately spurred white flowers which appear quite large for the size of the plant and have a lovely sweet fragrance at night. This cultivar is a choice addition to an orchid collection as it is not fussy and very generous with its new growths. It can easily double in size within a few short years.

  1. I don’t have any Neos myself though I know they’re pretty popular. This is an impressive mini, it looks so tiny and delicate. You’ve almost pushed me over the edge to get one. Sure would help if I were to stick to minis. 😉
