Neofinetia falcata ‘Kinkujyaku’

Neofinetia falcata ‘Kinkujyaku’ 金孔雀 (Golden Peacock) is a classic tiger variegated (torafu) bean leaf (mameba) variety. Originally discovered in Mie Prefecture in Japan, it originates from a mutation of Kasen, a green bean leaf variety. Compact, with short, pointy leaves flushed with golden yellow, and pinkish roots, it has delicate white flowers which open with a hint of pink on the tips of the petals. This orchid must be given bright light in order to produce its surface tiger stripe (nori-fu.) The tiger stripe typically develops as the leaves grow older, a feature called nochi-haze. Very popular with Neofinetia collectors as it can turn into a gorgeous, valuable specimen with time. Fragrant as always.
